This is a detailed step-by-step guide to setting up the Signital app on your BrightSign device using BrightAuthor:Connected software.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A BrightSign device (e.g., LS, HD, XD, XT series).
  • A microSD card (formatted to FAT32, minimum 1GB recommended).
  • A computer with BrightAuthor:Connected software installed.
  • A BrightSign Account for logging into BrightAuthor:Connected.
  • An active Signital account (opens in a new tab).
  • A stable internet connection.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Prepare Your BrightSign Device

  1. Power Off the Device:

    • Ensure your BrightSign device is powered off and disconnected.
  2. Prepare the microSD Card:

    • Insert the microSD card into your computer's card reader.
    • Format the microSD card to FAT32 if not already formatted.

Step 2: Configure Using BrightAuthor:Connected

  1. Launch BrightAuthor:Connected:

    • Open the BrightAuthor:Connected software on your computer.
  2. Log In to BrightAuthor:Connected:

    • In the top-right corner, click on Sign In.
    • Enter your BrightSign Account credentials (email and password).
      • Note: Logging in is necessary to access certain features, including the Enable Application URL option.
    • Click Sign In.
  3. Access the Setup Wizard:

    • Click on the Admin tab in the top menu.
    • Select Setup.
  4. Set your player to auto-update:

    • In the Player Settings window on the right, expand the section that includes your BrightSign model and select 'Latest released OS: ...'.
  5. Configure Network Settings:

    • Network Connection:
      • Choose between Ethernet (Wired) or Wi-Fi (Wireless) based on your setup.
    • For Ethernet Connection (Recommended):
      • Select Obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP) for automatic IP assignment, or configure static IP settings if needed.
    • For Wi-Fi Connection:
      • Select Wi-Fi and click Configure Wi-Fi.
      • Enter your Wi-Fi SSID and Password.
      • Choose Obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP) or set a static IP.
  6. Set the Application to Run:

    • In the Publishing Mode section:
      • Check the box for App URL.

      • In the App URL field, enter:

        https://signital.app/apps/brightsign/autorun.zip
  7. Finalize Settings:

    • Review all settings to ensure they are correct.
    • Click Save Setup to generate the necessary configuration.
      • If you're setting up Signital on multiple BrightSign players, you can also choose Add Setup to Library, which saves the setup so you don't have to start over for each BrightSign player.
  8. Save Configuration to microSD Card:

    • Save the setup to the microSD card.
    • When this process is complete, safely eject the microSD card from your computer.

Step 3: Launch and Configure

  1. Insert the microSD Card into BrightSign Device:

    • Insert the microSD card into the SD slot on your BrightSign device.
  2. Power On the Device:

    • Connect the power supply to the BrightSign device.
    • The device will boot up and automatically load the Signital app from the Application URL.
  3. Connect to the Internet (If Not Configured in Step 2):

    • If you didn't configure network settings in BrightAuthor:Connected:
      • Use a USB keyboard or mouse to select your network and enter the password.
  4. Display the 6-Digit Code:

    • After connecting to the internet, a 6-digit code will appear on the screen.
  5. Connect the Device to Your Signital Account:

    • Select the BrightSign option.
    • Enter the 6-digit code displayed on your device.
    • Click Connect.
  7. Complete Setup:

    • Your BrightSign device is now connected to your Signital display.
    • The content assigned to the display will start showing on your screen.

Troubleshooting

  • Cannot see the 'Admin' tab:

    • Ensure you are using BrightAuthor:Connected software.
    • Check that you are logged in with your BrightSign Account.
  • Cannot See 'Enable Application URL' Option:

    • Ensure you are logged in to BrightAuthor:Connected with your BrightSign Account.
    • If not logged in, click Sign In in the top-right corner and enter your credentials.
  • Device Not Booting Properly:

    • Ensure the microSD card is correctly inserted.
    • Reformat the microSD card and repeat the setup steps.
  • 6-Digit Code Not Displayed:

    • Check the internet connection.
    • Restart the BrightSign device by unplugging and plugging it back in.
  • Unable to Connect to Wi-Fi:

    • Verify the Wi-Fi network credentials.
    • Re-run the Setup BrightSign Player process and ensure Wi-Fi settings are correctly configured.
  • App Not Loading:

    • Confirm that the Application URL was entered correctly in BrightAuthor:Connected.
    • Ensure that Enable Application URL is selected.
